I have a new computer running Windows 7. It is functioning well, apart from the firewire card not being recognized. I can see that the BIOS does see the firewire card. Pages on the web offering advice on this kind of problems start their solutions with going to the device manager and expanding the 'IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers' node in the device tree.
Only I don't have such a node. How can I get the 'IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers' node to appear in the device manager? Windows update reports that Windows is up to date. Hi, I would like to recommend you download the driver from the official website firstly, then reboot to check if the issue persists. Please feel free to contact me if you get any update.
Hope it helps! Please Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information. Best Regards, Miya Yao This posting is provided 'AS IS' with no warranties, and confers no rights.

This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. I will try to give all the information that I have and that could be relevant. The card is a Conceptronic Ci1394B PCI card. Conceptronic support let me know that if the card is a version 2 card, it should work with Windows 7. Mine is a version 2 card. The card does not come with any drivers.
Nor can drivers be downloaded from the Conceptronic website. I think this means the card is supposed to function with standard windows drivers. The motherboard is an MSI 770-G45. I have updated the BIOS to the latest version.
I have also run the 'search for new drivers' utility that comes with the motherboard. If I disable 'quick boot' I can see the following during the boot sequence: 'PCI slot 3 firewire ctrl'. I assume this means that the BIOS has detected the card and recognized it as a firewire card. Well, that is about it.
Is there other information worth sharing? I got the feeling that the next step is the 'IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers' node to appear in the device manager. Memento hindi dubbed movie download. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. Hi Miya, Hi I have the exact same problem.
I just purchased a new custom built computer and I have no firewire device in my device manager to play with. I'm trying to connect a mixing board, but the firewire port is not. Anyway, the link you gave, which i believe must have helped the original poster, is no longer active. Can you please post another link with the same result? I don't know what kind of card i have. How can i find this out? I googled, binged, and yahoo'd everything i can think of for 1394 bus driver windows 7 firewire windows 7 you name it.
No luck:/ Please help? Thank you very much!

This is one of many threads I came across googling roughly 'IEEE 1394 device not showing up in device manager'. After a lot of reading I never found a real solution - until I started piecing some things together. This is what I did and it works, seems very simple, logical.
Thought I should share it, hopefully save someone else the agony of searching and reading for hours. Basically, what I think is or can be happening - and I'm no expert at all - is that there's miscommunication between the OS, the bus, and the device. The OS doesn't install the service for the bus unless the device is plugged in at startup (the external hard drive, camera, or whatever), and sometimes it doesn't install the service even if the device is plugged in. Perhaps the device is supposed to send a message that starts the service - who knows.
Maybe on older devices the driver isn't doing what it's supposed to do, and perhaps you have no updated driver and can't get one. In any event, I edited an entry in the registry that tells the 1394 bus host controller to start at OS startup instead of 'on demand'. After a restart, the bus host will load at startup, and when you plug your firewire device in, the bus host will detect it and run normally.

At least it works for me. Here's the instructions: Go to search, regedit.exe, run program. This opens the registry.
Go to HKEYLOCALMACHINE SYSTEM CurentControlSet Services and find the folder that corresponds to the 1394 bus host you normally use or see in device manager. On my computer it's 1394ohci.
You might have to do a little digging here to make sure you've got the right service. There's actually 2 folders/entries in my registry that look similar.
I used this one and it's working for me. When I click on the 1394ohci folder it brings up a list of settings. For 'Start,' 'REGDWORD,' the 'Data' value is probably going to be 0x00000003. That means 'start on demand'. I changed this to 2, which means 'start at startup'.
To modify value, right click on start, select modify, and type in 2. Here's a link to descriptions of this stuff: That's it. Close the editor, restart, and the IEEE 1394 Bust Host controller 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller should show up in device manager. And when you plug-in your device, it should be detected.
Depending on what driver you're using for the bus host controller, you might see an extra entry popup in device manager (if you're using the 'legacy' driver). Otherwise nothing else pops up when you plug in your device.
I guess it might depend on the device though. That's the way it is for me with an older Acom external hard drive. Hope this helps. Sorry that didn't work. Unfortunately I can't say it kept working on my machine either. It's been so long and I never used firewire much if at all, no longer do at all.
I checked off and on over the years whether the firewire host controller loaded or not and as I recall it still loaded intermittently - sometimes it did, sometimes it didn't. I just checked now and at the moment it shows up 'VIA 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller' - but has a message that says 'Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (code 43)'. Since I don't use it I don't care enough to fix it. In the past I often wouldn't even get the device node showing up in the Device manager tree ('IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers'). I guess it's a plus to at least see that's showing up.
Anyway, hope you find a real answer. Good luck, report back if you get it fixed.
Hi, first post here. Soon to be proud owner of an ADVC 55 unit. Ordered it yesterday. I've been looking at the downloads for this unit, but it's unclear to me which one I will need (if I need one at all). My Operating System is Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Version 2003 Service Pack 2 i.e.
That's NT 5.2 (Build 3790). In my opinion this is also the best desktop OS on the market today (but then; who am I, as a computer user for 20+ years and a system administrator for 14 years?). Also, I have a Conceptronic Ci1394B firewire pci-card in my PC. Hope that feeds the ADVC unit? I have no idea. I see all sorts of stories about firewire not feeding the right power for these units, but I guess I'll just have to see if it works for me. Anybody using a firewire pci-card with an ADVC55?
The ADVC-300 provides quite a bit of control over the audio and video, it is not just a straight A/D converter. I bought it years ago to deal with one particular set of old, degraded VHS tapes so I could make digital copies of the stuff for a friend.
That project alone justified the purchase, and the DVDs I was able to make from the files looked better than the VHS source. There are certainly other capture solutions, and you'll need to decide what best fits your needs and budget. One thing I would not do if you are concerned about quality is to convert to DVD first, and then try to edit that - you won't be happy with the results if you do anything but cut and splice.
